From the Vermont Emergency Management, Dept of Public Safety

  1. Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) location announced: FEMA will open a DRC for Orleans Co in Barton’s Memorial Hall, 17 Village Square, beginning tomorrow, 8/2/23 at 1pm. Regular hours are Mon-Sun (daily!) from 8a to 7p.
  1. Transportation to DRC: We’ve submitted a request to authorize RTC to supply on-demand transportation to Orleans Co DRC, as they’re doing in Johnson and Hardwick areas. Stay tuned.
  1. Property Buyouts Info: the simplest way for a citizen to inquire about buyouts is to complete VEM’s intake form here: VEM Buyout Intake Form   (there are multiple funding streams for buyouts, so this is definitely the way to go!)
  1. Debris Removal:
    • Towns are responsible for a plan to remove flood-related debris for residents/businesses.
    • Individual Debris Allowance: FEMA is offering up to $300 for flood clean-up work in damaged but habitable homes. The Clean and Sanitize Assistance program can be accessed online at the FEMA site, by calling 800-621-3362, and  possibly by asking at the DRC.
  2. FEMA County Coordinator: FEMA has named the County Coordinator who will be a “front door” for town questions. Nadia Tash has met with several of you already and will share how you can utilize her to the best advantage.
